Glaidson Acácio dos Santos, known as the “Bitcoin Pharaoh” and founder of GAS Consultoria, was sentenced by the Federal Court of Rio de Janeiro to 19 years and 2 months in prison for involvement in a criminal organization and active corruption, according to information released by the G1 portal.
The sentence was handed down by Judge Nilson Luis Lacerda, of the 1st Specialized Court for Criminal Organizations of the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice, who also ordered Glaidson's transfer to a maximum security federal prison outside the state.
Along with him, Daniel Aleixo Guimarães, known as Dany Boy and considered his right-hand man, received a sentence of 16 years and 4 months for the same crimes. The decision was published on October 2nd.
In the ruling, the judge highlighted that it was proven that Glaidson structured a criminal scheme aimed at eliminating competitors in the cryptocurrency market.
"The entrepreneurial nature of the organization under his leadership is evident. All the targets were competitors of GAS Consultoria. Glaidson used the criminal structure as an armed wing to maintain his market dominance, treating human life as a mere obstacle," the judge wrote.
Nilson Lacerda also cited evidence that Glaidson had planned a “clean-up in Cabo Frio,” ordering the formation of an extermination group to eliminate rivals.
Regarding active corruption, the judge stated that the investigations proved the payment of R$150,000 in 2021 to civil police officers from the Fraud Division, so that they could carry out an operation against a competitor and damage his image.
> “The telematic evidence shows that Glaidson not only agreed to the plan, but commanded it, giving direct instructions to Daniel Aleixo to negotiate with the police officers,” the judge highlighted.
