The Engine of Fairness: Global Transaction Ordering in Multistream Consensus A fundamental challenge in decentralized systems is achieving a fair and unbiased ordering of transactions from a chaotic pool of user submissions. In Somnia's unique Multistream Consensus, where each validator publishes its own independent data chain, establishing a single, canonical order for execution is both critical and complex. The process is not first-come-first-served. The consensus chain, which finalizes the state of the network, includes the tip of every validator's data chain in each block. It then applies a deterministic pseudorandom ordering algorithm to the bytes contained within all these data chains to produce a single, globally ordered stream. The "deterministic" nature means that given the same input, every node will arrive at the exact same order, ensuring consensus on the state. The "pseudorandom" quality is key to preventing manipulation. This randomness is not generated by an off-chain oracle, which would introduce a trust assumption. Instead, it is derived from an on-chain, verifiable random function (VRF) or a similar cryptographic primitive, whose seed is based on the immutable and unpredictable data from previous consensus blocks. This makes it practically impossible for a validator to strategically order transactions from different data chains to their own advantage (e.g., for MEV), as they cannot predict how the ordering algorithm will shuffle them. This design enforces fairness and composability at the protocol level. @Somnia Official #Somnia $SOMI
