Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko warned at the All-In Summit that there’s a 50% chance quantum computing could advance enough within five years to break Bitcoin’s current ECDSA encryption, allowing private keys to be cracked. He urged Bitcoin developers to adopt quantum-resistant algorithms now, before a crisis forces action. Solana has already introduced its Winternitz Vault as a safeguard, but upgrading Bitcoin is harder, requiring broad protocol changes and global wallet updates. While Blockstream’s Adam Back believes the quantum threat remains distant, others caution that breakthroughs may come faster than expected, threatening the very security foundation of the entire crypto ecosystem.
