On Sunday, 7 September 2025 at 3 pm BST, the UK will run its second nationwide test of the Emergency Alerts system.
Phones on 4G or 5G will vibrate, sound a siren for 10 seconds, and show a test message saying no action is needed.
The system is designed for life-threatening emergencies and has been used regionally during storms and a WWIl bomb evacuation. While the government urges calm, domestic abuse charities warn the alert could expose hidden phones, and provide guidance on opting out if needed.
