China is significantly increasing its soybean imports from Argentina and Uruguay in response to trade tensions with the U.S. For the 2025/26 marketing year, purchases of up to 10 million tons are expected, of which 2.43 million have already been secured for delivery between September and May 2026. Uruguay produced 4.2 million tons in 2024/25, indicating a strategic shift in the diversification of agricultural supplies.
