The 'instant effect' of Solana
The consensus proposal #Alpenglow seeks to reduce transaction finality to milliseconds
The developers of #solana have proposed a drastic overhaul of their consensus mechanism, aiming to make transactions on the network practically instantaneous for users.
The proposal, known as Alpenglow, seeks to replace the current Proof-of-History and TowerBFT systems with a new model based on Votor and Rotor.
If approved, this upgrade would reduce the transaction finality time from over 12 seconds to just 150 milliseconds.
In addition to improving speed, Alpenglow promises greater resilience for the network, keeping the chain operational even if a large number of validators disconnect or act maliciously.
The proposal is currently in the validator voting stage, with a small percentage already in favor, but the vast majority have yet to cast their vote.
