World Liberty Financial, a DeFi project linked to the family of President Donald Trump, will unlock 20% of tokens for early investors on September 1 through the 'Lockbox' process. The initial investment rounds are priced at $0.015 and $0.05, while the current futures price of WLFI is approximately $0.42, equivalent to a diluted valuation of over $40 billion.
If this price holds when listed on spot markets, the Trump family's ownership (22.5 billion WLFI) will be worth over $9 billion, with Trump personally holding 15.75 billion WLFI (around $6 billion). The tokens of the founding team are still locked, and the remaining 80% of investors will await governance votes.
WLFI is built on Ethereum, is promoting the USD1 stablecoin, and is aiming for listing on Coinbase. Trump's large token ownership has raised criticism and controversy over conflicts of interest, but proposals to restrict this have largely not appeared in the GENIUS Act that Trump signed in July.
