The US Secretary of Defense dismisses the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) after a contradiction in the assessment of the Iranian nuclear program.
In a stunning development, US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, has dismissed General Jeffrey Cross, the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), following a report that contradicted official claims regarding recent US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
According to the Washington Post, Cross's intelligence assessment revealed that while the strikes caused significant damage, the Iranian nuclear infrastructure was not completely destroyed, estimating only a temporary setback in Tehran's nuclear capabilities. This assessment sharply contrasts with previous statements from the US administration that claimed complete destruction of the targets.
Officials cited a "loss of confidence" in Cross's leadership as the reason for his dismissal. Christine Borden, acting director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, is now in charge.
Lawmakers have expressed concern over the politicization of intelligence assessments, emphasizing the importance of independent and fact-based reports.
