🇺🇸 The USA is preparing 'privateers' against crypto-hackers
💥 Congress is considering a bill that would give the president the right to issue 'privateer certificates' — a tool from the 18th century when private pirates acted on behalf of the state.
⚔️ Back then, such 'privateers' attacked the ships of opponents, and now their modern counterparts will be able to hunt down digital pirates. This concerns private companies and even individual specialists who will be allowed to track and arrest foreign crypto-criminals.
📉 The scale of the problem is evident: just last year, hackers stole billions of dollars in cryptocurrencies, and most high-profile attacks are linked to groups from North Korea, Russia, and China.
👉 The authors of the initiative believe that 'privatizing cybersecurity' will allow for quicker responses to new threats and save state resources. Critics, however, warn that this could create a gray area where hacker hunters become something like digital mercenaries.
