Financial and risk consulting firm Kroll faces a class action lawsuit over data breaches involving FTX, BlockFi, and Genesis creditors.
On Tuesday, Hall Attorneys filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court on behalf of FTX client Jacob Repko and other affected cryptocurrency creditors, accusing Kroll of causing phishing attacks due to the data breach in August.
The lawsuit claims that due to Kroll's data breach, malicious actors obtained creditors' personal information, resulting in frequent phishing attacks on creditors.
In addition to seeking compensation, the lawsuit also aims to address the issue of Kroll relying on a single communication channel, which affected information delivery to creditors.
In a post on Thursday, well-known FTX creditor Sunil Kavuri stated that he receives phishing emails daily, and his name appears in these scam emails.
Attorney Nicholas Hall responded that eligible participants may receive financial compensation, which could lead to changes in Kroll's operations.
Previously in March, Kroll experienced a data breach due to phishing attacks, which resulted in customer information being leaked.
The third round of FTX compensation plan will start in September
The third round of compensation will start on September 30, totaling $1.9 billion.
Compensation will likely not include some foreign creditors.
The second round of compensation was announced in May, involving a total of over $5 billion.
