🚨 Crypto Security Alert 🚨
A Bitcoiner has just lost 783 BTC (worth ~91 million USD) in a serious social engineering scam. According to an investigation by ZachXBT, the victim was approached by impersonators of the hardware wallet and exchange support team, making them trust and provide sensitive information. The entire amount of BTC was transferred in a single transaction and then laundered through Wasabi Wallet to hide the traces.
Notably, ZachXBT asserts that the perpetrator is not the Lazarus Group (North Korean hackers) but another group. This incident occurred exactly one year after the theft of 243 million USD from Genesis creditors, highlighting that scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
In the context of just the first 5 months of 2025, over 2.1 billion USD has been stolen from hacks and phishing incidents, serving as a wake-up call for all investors. Phishing tactics impersonating Ledger and Trezor have been sending fake emails or letters asking for seed phrases to “update security” are still rampant.
🔑 Lesson:
• Never share seed phrases / private keys.
• Always treat strange calls or emails as scams by default.
• Use multi-sig or safe custody for large assets.
