Trump Aide Stephen Miller Mocks Protesters, Promises Larger DC Crime Crackdown
White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller used harsh words to criticize protesters outside Union Station in Washington, D.C. A few hundred people had gathered there to oppose the Trump administration’s new anti-crime plan for the city. Surrounded by National Guard troops, Miller called the protesters “stupid white hippies” and “crazy communists,” joking that they should “go home and take a nap because they’re all over 90 years old.”
Miller said that “99 percent of this city has been terrorized by 1 percent” and promised that the federal government would send even more support for policing. “We are not going to let the Communists destroy America’s capital,” he told reporters.
After his comments, Miller met privately with Mayor Muriel Bowser and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith. City officials have not released any statements about the meeting or Miller’s remarks. Meanwhile, demonstrations against the federal program continued at Union Station and in other parts of downtown D.C.
