🇪🇺 Georgia announced its imminent accession to the EU — with a reservation about sovereignty
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the country will join the European Union "in the near future."
However, he stressed that Tbilisi will not sacrifice its traditions and independence for the sake of Brussels.
Kobakhidze indirectly accused the EU of creating obstacles, stating that membership is only possible if national sovereignty is preserved.
Georgia, which left the CIS in 2009 after a conflict with Russia, continues its course towards European integration, but on its own terms.
