Professor of Harvard University Kenneth Rogoff stated that he previously underestimated the role of $BTC in the shadow economy and the conflict of interest among regulators.
"Almost ten years ago, as a Harvard economist, I said that Bitcoin was more likely to be worth $100 than $100,000," Rogoff noted.
In his opinion, this statement turned out to be incorrect for several reasons. In particular, the expert expected that the U.S. government would introduce 'smart' regulation of the industry, but this did not happen.
Moreover, the economist underestimated the demand for Bitcoin as a means of payment in the global shadow economy worth $20 trillion. Rogoff also did not foresee that the regulators themselves could own cryptocurrency without serious consequences.
