Caldera Series (3): Overview of the Metalayer Framework

Caldera's Metalayer framework is a core highlight of the ecosystem, designed specifically for rollups, aiming to achieve interoperability between different chains. Its core consists of an intention engine and a messaging system. The intention engine simplifies cross-chain operations, allowing developers to simply declare their operational intentions while Metalayer automatically selects the best route. The messaging is based on the Hyperlane protocol, supporting cross-chain function execution and data retrieval, ensuring transaction security and data reliability.

The system architecture includes a source chain, a target chain, and a relay network. The source chain distributes messages and pays gas fees (which can be paid using ERA tokens), the relay network processes the messages, and the target chain executes the operations. The MetalayerRouter contract is responsible for routing and result feedback. Developers can quickly integrate using the TypeScript SDK and React hooks, while the Widget SDK allows for easy embedding of cross-chain bridging, seamlessly connecting dApps, with .era domains used for identity recognition. ERA tokens are used for paying gas fees, governance, and incentivizing validators.

The advantage of Metalayer lies in its abstraction of the complexities involved in cross-chain operations, allowing developers to focus on core business while enhancing efficiency. Caldera's rollup has included Metalayer since the testnet, covering multiple fields from gaming to AI, and will drive more cross-chain innovations in dApps in the future. For developers building blockchains, Metalayer is a powerful tool. $ERA
