On August 18, 2025, CMB International Securities, a subsidiary of China Merchants Bank, officially launched the virtual asset trading feature in its mobile application. The company became the first Chinese banking brokerage firm to offer cryptocurrency services in Hong Kong in accordance with existing regulatory requirements.
The new service covers three main cryptocurrencies — Bitcoin ($BTC ), Ethereum ($ETH ), and Tether ($USDT ) — with 24/7 trading support.
Access will be granted only to investors who pass verification under the 'Know Your Customer' (#KYC ) and Anti-Money Laundering (#AML ) procedures through an integrated account.
This step became possible after CMB International obtained expanded Type 1 (Securities Dealing) and Type 7 (Automated Trading Services) licenses from the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in July 2024.
The platform operates under the Securities and Futures Ordinance and the Stablecoin Ordinance, which came into effect on August 1, 2025.
