August U.S.–India Trade Talks Cancelled Amid Rising Tariff Tensions
U.S. negotiators abruptly cancelled their planned August 25–29 visit to New Delhi, halting the sixth round of trade talks aimed at finalizing a bilateral agreement. The decision comes amid escalating tensions, including an imminent additional 25% U.S. tariff on Indian goods—bringing some duties to as high as 50%—and disagreements over India’s agricultural policies and continued imports of Russian oil.
The cancellation has cast fresh uncertainty over the future of the negotiations. No new dates have been set for resuming talks, leaving the completion of a long-sought trade deal in doubt and sending unclear signals to businesses on both sides.
