Jackie Bezos, mother of one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, Jeff Bezos, passed away peacefully at her home in Miami on August 14, 2025, at the age of 78, following a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
As a devoted early childhood education philanthropist, Jackie co-founded the Bezos Family Foundation in 2000 alongside her husband, Miguel “Mike” Bezos, and led transformative initiatives such as the Vroom program and the Bezos Scholars Program. In 1995, she and Mike personally financed Amazon’s launch by investing two checks totaling approximately US$ 245,573, a pivotal move that seeded the global e-commerce giant.
Jackie’s legacy is remembered through her remarkable journey—from becoming a mother at 17, to earning a degree in psychology in midlife, to becoming a beloved matriarch and philanthropist. She leaves behind her husband, three children (Jeff, Christina, and Mark), eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
