Bitlayer Network: V2 rollup and the V3 vision (what to expect)

Bitlayer’s roadmap moves from bridge (short term) to rollup (medium term) to high-performance execution (long term). The V2 whitepaper lays out a Bitcoin-anchored rollup model: a fast sequencing layer (PoS-like) handles quick block production while cryptographic commitments and dispute proofs anchor finality to Bitcoin. This gives sub-second UX for users while preserving Bitcoin settlement guarantees. Bitlayer positions this as the path to real-world DeFi apps running with Bitcoin’s security.

Looking beyond, V3 is presented as a performance stage: parallel execution, ultra-low latency, and broader horizontal scaling — essentially trying to match centralized exchange speeds but under decentralized guarantees and Bitcoin anchoring. Those are ambitious goals and will require protocol design advances, careful decentralization planning, and real developer momentum. Bitlayer’s staged approach (bridge → rollup → performance) is a sensible way to de-risk each phase.

For builders, V2 means buying into an EVM-compatible stack that will let common tooling and smart contracts operate in a Bitcoin-final environment; for users, it promises faster transactions and lower fees while keeping BTC at the center.
