• The app's revenue reached $2 billion since May 2023.

  • The average revenue per installation is $2.91.

  • In 2025, revenue increased by 673% compared to last year.

The mobile app #ChatGPT continues to show rapid revenue growth. According to Appfigures, from May 2023, iOS and Android users have spent about $2 billion on it. This is approximately 30 times more than the combined spending on competing apps Claude, Copilot, and Grok.

Since the beginning of 2025, the app has generated $1.35 billion, which is 673% higher than the figure for January–July of last year ($174 million). On average, ChatGPT earns about $193 million monthly — $25 million more than a year ago.

In comparison, the closest competitor #Grok has earned only $25.6 million since the beginning of the year, which is just 1.9% of ChatGPT's revenue. The average installation cost of the #OpenAI app is $2.91 worldwide and $10 in the USA, where 38% of all revenue is generated.

The total number of ChatGPT downloads has exceeded 690 million, of which 318 million occurred in 2025. This is 2.8 times higher than the same period last year. The leading market for installations is India (13.7% of all downloads), followed by the USA (10.3%).

According to Appfigures, monthly downloads increased by 180% — from 16 million in the period from January to July 2024 to approximately 45 million this year. Germany has become the second-largest market by revenue after the USA, accounting for 5.3% of all user spending.

Although part of the companies' revenue is generated from corporate subscriptions and APIs, these figures reflect the popularity of the mobile version of ChatGPT among regular users.

The launch of Grok by xAI in November 2023 was accompanied by the absence of a mobile app, which experts believe partially explains the gap. The iOS version of the Grok app appeared only in January 2025, while the Android version was released in March.
