US deploys 4,000 troops in the Caribbean to confront narcoterrorist cartels
The administration of Donald Trump ordered the deployment of more than 4,000 Marines and a wide naval and air deployment under the command of Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).
The operation includes the amphibious group USS Iwo Jima, destroyers, a guided missile cruiser, a nuclear submarine, and P-8 Poseidon aircraft.
The move seeks to send a political and strategic message following the designation of the Cartel de los Soles as a global terrorist organization.
