#MarketTurbulence A sharp increase in the Producer Price Index (PPI) in the USA on August 14, 2025, triggered a severe decline in the cryptocurrency market. As a result of the data release, the price of Bitcoin (BTC), which had just reached record highs (around $123–124 thousand), sharply fell to approximately $117–119 thousand, decreasing by 3–5%.

Ethereum (ETH) also dropped by several percent.

Overall, the crypto market lost between $100 and $133 billion in capitalization within a day.

The main reason was liquidations: over $1 billion in positions, mostly long, were automatically closed due to the sharp price movement. This has always happened - information is a catalyst for movement in financial markets, and the crypto market is no exception.
