My girlfriend and I started trading crypto in 2021, just before the market crash. I lost over $20k, she lost thousands too. She quit her $800/month online sales job to trade full-time, believing she could make a living from it. Three years later, she makes $20–50 on a good day, but I’m covering 95% of our expenses while she trades 12+ hours daily.
I earn $2.8k after taxes, and rent, utilities, and living costs take $2.2k. She rarely helps with chores beyond laundry and cleaning, avoids talks about the future, and hasn’t contributed meaningfully toward our goals. I’m still trying to recover my savings, but it’s harder every year.
Our relationship has also suffered. We haven’t been intimate in months, and she’s glued to her devices even during movies. She’s not holding huge positions that require constant monitoring — she just stares at charts all day. It’s hurting our connection, our finances, and my long-term dreams of owning a home.
I wouldn’t mind supporting her if we shared big goals like marriage or buying a house, but we don’t. She’s 28, I’m 30
