According to a report from Coin World, documents obtained from foreign media regarding a U.S. government project demonstration show that the Trump administration's flagship 'Golden Dome' missile defense system will include four levels—one space-based layer and three ground-based layers, with plans to deploy 11 short-range missile battalions in the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii. This demonstration was presented last week to 3,000 defense contractors in Huntsville, Alabama, revealing the daunting deadline of 2028 set personally by Trump and the unprecedented complexity of the system. The project draws on the concept of Israel's 'Iron Dome' system, but due to the vast territory that needs protection and the diverse threats it must counter, its scale and complexity far exceed the prototype. The demonstration documents show that the system consists of four major integrated levels: 1) a space-based sensor targeting layer capable of missile warning, tracking, and interception; 2) a three-tier ground-based defense layer composed of interceptors, radar arrays, and potential laser weapons. Notably, the demonstration documents indicate plans to build a large missile base in the Midwest for deploying the 'Next Generation Interceptor' (NGI) developed by Lockheed Martin (LMT.N). This interceptor will work in conjunction with the THAAD system, also produced by Lockheed, to form a 'high-altitude defense layer.'
