●● What is Bitlayer?
Bitlayer is a Layer 2 platform dedicated to Bitcoin, using the Rollup model to enhance processing and programming capabilities while maintaining the original security integrity of Bitcoin. The project is designed to address Bitcoin's fundamental limitations such as lack of scalability, lack of programmability, and absence of a decentralized BTC bridge.
Unlike traditional Layer 2s, Bitlayer is built on the BitVM model — a new architecture that allows verification of Smart Contract states on the Bitcoin chain without modifying the original protocol. Additionally, Bitlayer fully supports EVM (up to the Cancun upgrade), allowing Ethereum developers to port applications to Bitlayer without changing architecture.
●● The uniqueness of Bitlayer:
The first Layer 2 on Bitcoin that supports EVM and Solidity
Uses the Rollup model combined with BitVM to inherit security from Bitcoin
Fully compatible with the Ethereum ecosystem (dApp, wallet, Devtool)
BitVM Bridge allows BTC to be transferred back and forth without the need for a third party
Supports the deployment of Smart contracts and native DeFi applications on Bitcoin (BTCFi)
Has a roadmap to scale up to 20,000 TPS with a 3-second confirmation time by the end of 2025
Uses BTR token as a governance tool and ecosystem incentive
●● Model and operational mechanism
The components of Bitlayer:
Bitlayer PoS (V1): the first version using the Proof-of-Stake mechanism to test core features and deploy initial infrastructure
Bitlayer Rollup (V2): a Rollup architecture built on Bitcoin, inheriting native security and supporting Smart Contracts
BitVM Bridge: a decentralized BTC bridge that allows BTC to be transferred back and forth between Bitcoin and Bitlayer
EVM Compatibility: an Ethereum-compatible layer that allows the use of Solidity, MetaMask, Hardhat,...
BTR Token: the native token of the platform, used for Governance and Ecosystem Incentives
