Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has quietly joined the billionaire club, at least when it comes to on-chain assets. According to blockchain analytics platform Arkham, the total value of Buterin's publicly known cryptocurrency assets has now surpassed $1.02 billion. This comes right after the price of Ether crossed the $4,000 mark for the first time in eight months.

Theo Arkham Intelligence, most of Buterin's portfolio consists of Ethereum and a few other tokens. Currently, he holds about 240,000 ETH, worth approximately $1.01 billion. This is not surprising, considering his role as a co-founder of Ethereum and his long-term commitment to the development of Ethereum from the early days.

Ethereum is at the center of countless blockchain innovations, from decentralized finance (DeFi) to NFTs, and Buterin's holdings reflect his deep connection to the project's success.

Other Tokens Besides Ethereum

In addition to ETH, Arkham's data shows that Buterin owns 2,906 Aave Ethereum tokens (AETHWETH) and other smaller cryptocurrencies such as WhiteRock (WHITE), Moo Deng (MOODENG), and Wrapped Ethereum (WETH).

Although these assets are worth much less than his Ethereum holdings, they show that he is no stranger to exploring various tokens within the Ethereum ecosystem.

A Transparent Billionaire

Unlike many in the tech and finance world, Vitalik Buterin's wealth is clearly displayed on the blockchain, with every token in his disclosed wallet being traceable in real-time.

He first became a cryptocurrency billionaire at the age of 27 in May 2021, when the price of Ether surpassed $3,000, holding about 333,500 ETH, worth $1.02 billion, according to Etherscan. In 2018, he claimed he had never owned more than 0.9% of the Ethereum supply, and his net worth had 'never come close' to $1 billion.

Today, rising ETH prices and increasing institutional interest are empowering his assets. U.S. spot Ether ETF funds recently recorded net inflows of $461 million. As of now, ETH is trading at around $4,201, with a market capitalization of $507.8 billion.
