Trump and Putin will meet in Alaska for talks on peace in Ukraine.
U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska to discuss ending the war in Ukraine, Trump says.
Both leaders will "focus on discussing options for achieving a long-term peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian crisis," said Putin's assistant Yuri Ushakov.
Trump made the long-awaited announcement on social media today (August 9) after saying that the parties, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, are close to an agreement on a ceasefire that could resolve the three-year conflict, which may require Ukraine to concede significant territory.
Speaking to reporters at the White House earlier Friday, Trump suggested that the agreement would involve some land exchange.
"There will be some exchange of territories for the benefit of both sides," said the Republican president.
