China has decided to support Brazil after the United States announced new taxes on Brazilian products. The American President, Donald Trump, wants to impose tariffs of 50% on certain goods coming from Brazil. For China, this is an unfair measure that resembles trade pressure.
Celso Amorim, an important advisor to the Brazilian government, explained that the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, finds this American decision very problematic. According to him, it is a way to intimidate Brazil and disrupt its economy. China believes that such taxes harm emerging countries like Brazil and do not respect international trade rules.
A Chinese spokesperson, Lin Jian, also reiterated that his country stands with Brazil to defend its sovereignty and interests. China refuses to allow powerful countries to impose their rules on others. It believes that each nation should be able to make its own decisions without facing pressure.
Additionally, China wants to strengthen friendship among Southern countries, like those in the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa). It proposes more cooperation and mutual assistance so that these countries can better withstand economic challenges. Brazil, as an important ally, can count on this support in a difficult time.
