Great news for the Ethereum ecosystem!🎉
Co-founder Vitalik Buterin is celebrating a major breakthrough in the decentralization of Layer 2 (L2) networks.
Several important L2s, such as Base, Optimism, Scroll, and others, have reached the coveted "Stage 1" standard from L2BEAT.🚀
What does this mean? 🤔
L2BEAT uses an evaluation framework to measure the maturity and decentralization of L2s. Achieving "Stage 1" is no small feat: it means that these networks already have a functioning proof system, allow fund withdrawals without completely relying on a single operator, and are verified by at least 5 external actors.
It’s a giant step towards security and autonomy💪
Vitalik explained on X why this is so crucial. He sees L2s as the solution for Ethereum's scalability, allowing the main network (L1) to avoid the costs of processing ultra-fast transactions that only L2s can handle efficiently.
In his words, L2s "absorb users who need 300 ms slot times without imposing on Ethereum the centralization costs of trying to serve them directly".🏎️💨
The goal is clear: scale without sacrificing decentralization AND Buterin is already focusing on the next challenge: reducing fund withdrawal times from L2s.
His vision is to go from the current times (which can sometimes be up to a week) to less than an hour, and in the future, to just 12 seconds!⏳
This demonstrates that Ethereum's path is more alive than ever, with a focus on improving user experience and further strengthening the network's architecture.
The future of L2s looks very promising!✨
