P2P Scams in Pakistan: A Rising Threat
Peer-to-peer (P2P) scams are spreading quickly across Pakistan, targeting people who send or receive money through mobile apps and online platforms.
A common trick involves sending fake payment screenshots. Scammers share these with sellers, claiming they’ve sent the money. Trusting the proof, the seller hands over the product—only to realize later that no payment was ever made.
Many scammers appear friendly and convincing. They chat like genuine buyers or sellers, build trust, and then pressure people into quick, unverified deals, leaving no time to confirm payments.
These scams succeed largely because many people are still unfamiliar with how digital transactions actually work. This lack of awareness makes it easier for fraudsters to deceive their victims.
The solution lies in digital safety education and stronger security measures. Banks, apps, and marketplaces should work to detect and block fake accounts, while users must learn to verify every transaction before acting.
By staying alert and informed, we can shield ourselves—and others—from this growing online danger.
