Ripple launches Ethereum-compatible sidechain to attract developers

To expand its ecosystem, #Ripple has just introduced the XRPL EVM Sidechain, an Ethereum-compatible sidechain. According to CTO David Schwartz, this move aims to attract more developers and foster innovation for the XRP Ledger platform.

Expanding the development community

#XRPLEVMSidechain , launched in June, supports smart contracts and uses XRP as the native token. This enables developers familiar with Ethereum's Solidity language to easily build applications on the XRP Ledger. Schwartz acknowledges that the development community of the XRP Ledger is still small compared to larger networks like Ethereum and Solana, due to the platform's lack of programming capabilities at layer-1. Therefore, the launch of this sidechain is a crucial strategy to expand the community.

Prospects and challenges

The addition of more developers will help unlock many new applications on the XRP Ledger, from lending platforms to tokenization services. Although this new sidechain is still in its early stages, Schwartz stated that Ripple is working to encourage developers through grant programs and community support.

This is an important step, helping the XRP Ledger not only retain current developers but also attract new talent from the Ethereum community. If successful, this sidechain could be a driving force for the development of $XRP and the entire Ripple ecosystem.
