In simple terms, Caldera is the 'Rollup customization workshop' on Ethereum.
It allows projects to build their own dedicated Rollup as needed (equivalent to an independent small channel), enjoying Ethereum's security without overcrowding the mainnet. Even better is the 'shared channel' called Metalayer, which allows assets and data from different Rollups to freely interact, enabling zero-knowledge and optimistic frameworks to communicate with each other.
The token ERA acts like a channel pass: it is used to pay cross-Rollup fees, stake as a validator, and vote on rule changes.
My biggest takeaway: previously, crossing Rollups felt like navigating a maze; now, taking the Metalayer feels like taking a shortcut, it's much faster!
