The United States will impose a tariff of around 100 percent on imported semiconductors, President Donald Trump said on Wednesday.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that the new tariff rate will apply to "all chips and semiconductors entering the United States," but it will not apply to companies that have committed to manufacturing in the country.
"So a 100 percent tariff on all chips and semiconductors entering the United States. But if you have committed to manufacturing (in the United States), or if you are in the process of manufacturing (in the United States), like many, there is no tariff," said Trump.
