Have you ever wondered why, despite all your hard work and earnings, you don't have any savings? Let's understand. Welcome to neoliberal governance, a system that is implemented in every country in the world. It suits the governments but not the people. To understand this, we need to go back in time, when the Cold War was ongoing between the USSR and the United States. This war ended in 1990, but its effects lasted until 2015, and for the last 10 years, neoliberal governance has been applied globally.
In 1976, Milton Friedman presented this theory for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize. According to him, the role of the government is not welfare or public service, but merely to make profit. After the arrival of the IMF in Pakistan, institutions were privatized, subsidies were eliminated, and taxes were imposed on every sector. The result is that education, health, transport, and welfare all have to be purchased from the private sector.
Thus, the entire focus is on earning. If you do not earn, you are worthless in the eyes of the government, even though religion states that sustenance is in the hands of Allah. This system forces you to earn against your will. Now you have two options: either reduce your needs and adopt asceticism, or make the women of the household earn as well.
This is the deceptive system that creates further problems. The biggest issue in Pakistan is indeed this neoliberal governance.
