🚨1 Billion XRP from Ripple Ready to Flood the Market, But Here’s the Catch
August. Alexandre Trade
On August 1st, Ripple is set to unlock 1 billion XRP from its custody wallet as part of a regular monthly cycle that has been in place for years. However, before anyone panics about the potential market impact, it’s worth noting that most of this XRP never actually makes it to the open market.
The token is currently priced around $3.16, giving it a total market value of $187.4 billion. About 59.23 billion XRP are in active circulation out of a maximum supply of 100 billion. This latest release comes as XRP declines from its monthly high of $3.66, which was reached just days ago at the end of July.
Since then, XRP has fallen more sharply than Bitcoin and Ethereum, which have lost only 0.5% and 0.4% respectively. The steeper decline of XRP is likely due to short-term holders securing recent gains in value. Market volumes have cooled slightly, but whale activity has surged. On July 30th, over 70 million XRP left long-dormant wallets — a sign of silent accumulation by large holders.
Ripple typically unlocks 1 billion XRP each month, but lately releases 60–70% of this amount. Only 300–400 million tokens remain in active circulation, providing liquidity while keeping broader supply inflation in check.
