Ledger wallet software limitations affect Cardano users' participation in the Glacier Airdrop
According to reports, the Ledger hardware wallet has software limitations that prevent some Cardano users from receiving the 'Glacier Airdrop.' The specific reason is that Ledger's implementation of the CIP-8 protocol restricts messages to 31 bytes, while the airdrop message requires 251 bytes, and the existing firmware cannot support it. Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson stated that this issue was reported in July, but Ledger has not provided an update on the timeline. Fahmi Syed, chairman of the Midnight Foundation, confirmed this matter and is in communication with Ledger, noting that XRP and Avalanche are also facing similar situations, with a solution expected in the coming weeks. Cardano developers are working on a workaround that will use a payload as a metadata empty transaction. This workaround is planned to be integrated into the 'Glacier Airdrop' protocol to assist affected users.
