Zhao Changpeng requests dismissal of the FTX trust's $1.76 billion claim against him
According to reports, Zhao Changpeng has requested the bankruptcy court in Delaware, USA, to dismiss the $1.76 billion claim filed by the FTX trust against him. The trust claims that the funds were transferred to Binance by SBF (Sam Bankman-Fried), while Zhao stated in a motion submitted on Monday that he is a resident of the UAE, and the trust cannot prove that he is under the jurisdiction of Delaware. He emphasized that the related claims in the U.S. have little relevance to him, and the relevant laws do not have extraterritorial applicability. In July of this year, including Binance, the FTX digital market has sued Binance and several executives over the share repurchase agreement with SBF from July 2021. Currently, two former executives of Binance have applied to be removed from the lawsuit. Zhao pointed out that he is merely the 'nominal counterparty' to the transaction and believes that FTX's bankruptcy blame on Binance has 'no basis at all.' He also noted that serving foreign defendants through U.S. lawyers is improper conduct, which could render the lawsuit invalid, and mentioned that U.S. bankruptcy law does not clearly apply to the transfer of foreign funds.
