ChainCatcher news, according to Protos, scammers are using AI tools to steal cryptocurrencies through deepfakes and wallet drainers. Decentralized finance (DeFi) developer Joey Santoro stated that a friend of his recently lost 2 million dollars in a complex deepfake scam.
The scammers used a deepfake audio of Paul Faecks, the founder of the stablecoin blockchain Plasma, to pitch a consulting position to Santoro's friend and tricked the victim into opening a file during the call, thereby obtaining their password and private key. Santoro warns users to isolate their cryptocurrencies from everyday devices as much as possible.
