What is HODL really and why do so many people continue to do it?
One of the simplest yet most challenging ways to be in crypto is to HODL.
Yes, even though it may seem like a joke, this word originated as a misspelling in a forum in 2013... and ended up being a symbol of conviction for the entire community.
HODL does not mean "buy and forget."
It means to hold a cryptocurrency for the long term, with the conviction that its value can grow over time, beyond market volatility.
Those who practice HODL do not let fear or euphoria take control.
They do not sell when prices drop, nor do they chase prices when they rise.
They analyze, study, and then decide to hold their assets with patience, even in the most uncertain moments.
It is a strategy that requires patience, conviction, and emotional control, and it has been part of the journey for many users who achieved good results over time — although it also involves risks.
If you are a beginner, you may have heard the phrase:
"You don't lose until you sell."
Well... that is HODL.
