🚨 A Canadian teenager has been sentenced after stealing $37 million worth of Bitcoin!
In one of the largest crypto thefts that shook the cryptocurrency community, the young Canadian Cameron Readman was sentenced to prison after executing a SIM Swap operation that enabled him to steal 1,547 Bitcoin and 60,000 Bitcoin Cash from the well-known investor "Josh Jones".
🔐 Readman seized Josh's number through a SIM card attack and bypassed the two-factor authentication to access his wallet. He then began laundering the money through hundreds of small transactions, passing it through centralized platforms to cover his tracks.
🎭 That's not all! It later turned out that he was involved in hacking famous NFT accounts on platform X (formerly Twitter), including:
Beeple, Zeneca, DeeKay, Nouns DAO, and others!
He also sold an internal dashboard to access X accounts for 250 ETH!
🧾 The verdict:
12 months and 1 day in prison
3 years of probation
A fine of $60,000
Restitution of $248,257
And there is still $31.5 million missing
⚠️ The famous investigator "ZachXBT" called for stricter penalties for such crimes, especially as these methods are spreading alarmingly.
🔎 Just in 2024, SIM Swap attacks in the UK increased by 1,055%!
📢 Do you think the punishment was sufficient? Or do digital crimes need stricter legislation?
