Guotai Junan International became the first Chinese securities company to issue digital bonds, raising 300 million USD through HSBC's platform.
Guotai Junan International (GTJAI) has marked an important milestone for the Chinese finance industry by becoming the first securities company in the country to issue local digital bonds, raising 300 million USD through HSBC's digital platform. The bonds have a maturity of 3 years, are denominated in USD, and the entire issuance and payment process took place on HSBC's digital asset platform.
This transaction is not just a purely financial operation but also carries strategic significance regarding the application of blockchain technology in traditional financial operations.
The bond issuance structure was implemented in a direct model, where GTJAI serves both as the issuer and as the global coordinator and payment agent. Thus, GTJAI became the first Chinese financial institution to fully participate in the entire lifecycle of bond issuance based on blockchain technology, clearly demonstrating the company's technical capabilities and ability to handle complex financial operations.
This is not a standalone move, but part of GTJAI's overall strategy to diversify fundraising channels and strengthen international competitiveness. The pioneering issuance of this local digital financial product could set a new standard, encouraging other financial institutions in China to quickly adopt digital transformation in their business operations.
Earlier in 2025, GTJAI also reaffirmed its position in the Asian capital market by completing three underwriting deals for initial public offerings (IPOs), raising a total of approximately 1.7 billion HKD.
The success of this digital bond issuance is a testament to the increasing confidence of international investors in GTJAI's development prospects and financial stability. The cross-border fundraising through this advanced technology is expected to help the company strengthen its balance sheet while ensuring ample liquidity to meet long-term strategic goals.
