Why Bill Gates Still Says No to Crypto in 2025
While the crypto world continues to grow rapidly in 2025, one influential voice still isn’t convinced — Bill Gates. Even as digital assets gain global traction and attract billions in investment, the Microsoft co-founder stands firm in his opposition.
Gates argues that cryptocurrencies hold “no real value,” likening them to the greater fool theory — where profits come not from utility but from selling to someone willing to pay more. According to him, this approach is risky and unsustainable, often leading to financial bubbles.
He’s also been vocal about the environmental impact of cryptocurrencies, particularly Bitcoin. “It’s a waste of resources and doesn’t contribute to solving real-world issues,” he said in a recent interview, pointing to the massive energy consumption involved in mining.
Another red flag for Gates is the high risk for everyday investors. With limited regulations, many people are lured by quick gains — only to suffer heavy losses.
While much of the tech world races into Web3, blockchain, and crypto innovation, Gates remains focused on practical technologies like clean energy, healthcare advancements, and artificial intelligence — sectors he believes make a real difference.
Is Gates just being overly cautious, or does he see dangers others ignore?
