Last week, tensions between the US and Russia escalated again, this time with a nuclear tone.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev reacted furiously to Donald Trump's ultimatum for Russia to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine in 10 days.
Medvedev called the statement a “step towards war” and asserted that Moscow is not “Israel or Iran,” emphasizing that the country does indeed have nuclear response capability, as a last resort.
Trump did not take it lightly.
On Friday (1st), he announced the deployment of two nuclear submarines to “appropriate regions” as a direct response to the threat from the former Russian president.
“Words have weight. And they can have serious consequences,” wrote Trump.
When pressed by reporters, he was direct:
“A threat was made. And we will protect our people.”
The Pentagon and the US Navy refused to comment on the details, further increasing the atmosphere of uncertainty.
