Family who is Vitalik Buterin is a Russian-Canadian programmer and the creator of Ethereum, the second most important blockchain after Bitcoin. He was born in 1994 and stood out in mathematics and programming from a young age. His interest in decentralization arose after a frustrating experience with a video game (World of Warcraft).
In 2011 he discovered Bitcoin, co-founded Bitcoin Magazine, and soon identified its limitations, which led him to propose in 2013 the idea of Ethereum: a more flexible blockchain capable of executing smart contracts and supporting decentralized applications (DApps).
Ethereum was launched in 2015 with a strong community of developers and has been key in the emergence of sectors like DeFi, NFTs, and DAOs. Vitalik also played an important role in critical events such as the hacking of The DAO (2016) and the transition of Ethereum to Proof of Stake with The Merge (2022), which reduced the energy consumption of the network by more than 99%.
Despite his enormous influence, he has begun to reduce his involvement in the daily coordination of the project to focus on long-term research. He is also known for his participation in philanthropy and for maintaining an open dialogue with the community, including his critics.
