Armstrong recounts meeting Vitalik Buterin in 2013 at the Bitcoin conference in San Jose, when Vitalik Buterin was writing for Bitcoin Magazine, and sending him a few months later to visit Coinbase's first office in San Francisco.
Armstrong explained that he tried to hire Vitalik Buterin in 2013, but due to a series of circumstances, including issues obtaining a work visa for the United States, Vitalik Buterin was forced to return to Canada.
"While he was stuck in Canada, he created ETHEREUM," the CEO recounted, "so, in a way, the inefficient immigration system in the United States contributed to the birth of ETHEREUM."
The co-founder of Bankless, David Hoffman, joked that "Coinbase almost prevented Ethereum from seeing the light of day."
