Amazon founder Jeff Bezos's space company 'Blue Origin' announced on July 21 that Tron founder Sun Yuchen would fly to space aboard the New Shepard suborbital rocket with five other passengers.

Sun Yuchen spent 28 million dollars on a space ticket in 2021

Blue Origin revealed that Sun Yuchen purchased the first ticket for 28 million dollars back in 2021. At that time, the entire cost was donated to Blue Origin's 'Club for the Future' to support various space-related charitable projects.

The mission Sun Yuchen is set to join is Blue Origin's 34th mission, named 'New Shepard,' after the first American astronaut to break the atmosphere, Alan Shepard. According to the previous mission schedule, this space journey is set to launch officially in just a few weeks.

The five accompanying passengers have been revealed

However, according to foreign media quoting Sun Yuchen's spokesperson, he ultimately did not choose the Crew members. The five people accompanying him are a real estate investor, a businessman, a journalist, and a venture capitalist, namely:

  • Turkish entrepreneur Gökhan Erdem

  • Meteorologist and journalist Deborah Martorell

  • Teacher, translator, and tour guide Lionel Pitchford

Blue Origin continues to make headlines with its all-female space mission

Blue Origin had already sparked discussions due to some 'special passengers' before. Fast forward to April 2024, the company completed its first-ever all-female space team mission, immediately attracting global media attention. This was New Shepard's 11th crewed mission (NS-31) launched from Texas, USA, marking the first time a female team has flown together since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to enter space in 1963.
