The attorneys for Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm informed Manhattan court judge Katherine Failla of their intention to move for a dismissal of the proceedings. The reason for this was the testimony of Hanfen Lin, a victim of cryptocurrency fraud, whose funds, she claims, allegedly passed through the Tornado Cash mixer. The defense asserts that FBI experts did not establish such a connection and that this testimony should have been excluded from evidence.
Earlier, government expert FBI Joseph Decapua confirmed that he was not tasked with tracking Lin's transactions, and blockchain analysts on social media refuted the use of Tornado Cash for laundering her stolen bitcoins.
If the court finds the admitted testimony to be an error, the proceedings may be dismissed or restarted with a different composition of the court and jury.
