Key Takeaways:
Fusaka hard fork is scheduled for early November 2025
Two public testnets will launch in September and October
Fusaka includes 11 EIPs, including EIP-7825 for scaling and security
Glamsterdam, Ethereum’s next major upgrade, will be outlined on August 1
Proposal to raise gas limit to 150 million and reduce block time to 6 seconds under review
Ethereum’s next major network upgrade, the Fusaka hard fork, is now scheduled for November 2025, according to Ethereum core developers. The upcoming release follows the Pectra upgrade and is part of the network’s push for more frequent and efficient protocol enhancements.
As reported by ethPandaOps, Fusaka’s next devnet goes live Wednesday, and it will be followed by two public testnets in late September and October. If successful, the final mainnet rollout is expected in early November—just in time for Devconnect Buenos Aires, which will run from Nov. 17–22.
Fusaka will implement 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), including:
EIP-7825: Enhances network resilience against attacks while improving scalability
A proposed gas limit increase to 150 million, improving transaction throughput
However, developers have removed EIP-7907, which aimed to double contract code size limits, to accelerate testing. Also excluded is the EVM Object Format, a more controversial upgrade, which will not be included in Fusaka.
Glamsterdam Upgrade Features Coming Soon
Ethereum’s following hard fork, Glamsterdam, is now under planning. Key upgrade proposals are set to be finalized on August 1 during the upcoming AllCoreDevs Execution meeting.
Early proposals for Glamsterdam include:
Reducing block times from 12 seconds to 6 seconds, as suggested by core developer Barnabé Monnot, to improve DeFi app speed and UX
Vitalik Buterin confirmed that Ethereum validators are signaling support for raising the gas limit to 45 million, which could reduce fees and boost network capacity
In a recent post, Ethereum developer Nixo emphasized that the Fusaka timeline must remain tight to meet the Devconnect target, saying:
“If we want to ship by Devconnect, we need our timeline TIGHT... Can we get client releases in the next month & a half?”
As the Ethereum ecosystem prepares for two major upgrades—Fusaka in Q4 2025 and Glamsterdam in 2026—the network continues to evolve toward faster, cheaper, and more secure scalability.
