Elon Musk's brain-machine startup Neuralink helps veterans cure paralysis

Local media reported that the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine completed its first brain-machine implant surgery this April. The university stated that its first patient (pseudonym RJ) is a U.S. veteran who was paralyzed after a motorcycle accident. He underwent the implantation surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine's neurosurgery department with the help of the Miami Paralysis Healing Program.

The University of Miami stated that RJ underwent the implantation surgery at the flagship hospital UHealth Tower in the University of Miami Health System in April 2025, and was discharged the day after surgery. In addition to RJ, four other patients underwent implantation surgeries at other research sites. With the Neuralink implant, patients can control computers and smartphones with their thoughts. RJ expressed great excitement about life after surgery, reigniting his passion for life.
