Work hard for 12 years to achieve school numbers, top in F.S.C, and then join the race for MDCAT with millions. Even if you succeed, don't be happy... only the first door has opened.

Then for five years, considered the most beautiful age of life, you bury yourself in MBBS textbooks. No proper sleep, no timely meals. Exams, wards, viva, the fear of failing, no peace any day.

Then the house job - the distinction between day and night ends. Sleep, personal life, health... all sacrificed. Spend Eid, Bakra Eid, Shab-e-Barat in the hospital.

Then postgraduate – another battle. Then 4-5 years of long training, where your life becomes dedicated to others, and in return, you only hear the voice of "work harder."

Then comes the day when you become eligible for a job... and you realize this is the country where being a doctor is a crime.

People look at you and say: "Doctors are butchers", "they take commissions", "they prescribed us expensive medicine", "they didn't give us a lift"...

Neither does anyone know about your 25 years of sacrifice, nor your exposure to infections, nor the swollen circles under your eyes after night duty.

Guilt?

Just that you have become a respectable servant.
